Dinosaur Tea Party
Rose Stuart & Beth Bomba
Colonie Town Library
Blurb
Join us for a fun time of dinosaurs and dressing up. We will eat delicious snacks, craft ourselves a crown, stomp around to songs, and more. If you have any accessories or clothes that make you feel fancy and/or fierce, we want you to wear them today! We look forward to a roaring good time.
STructure of the Program
The program was about an hour long.
Color some stomping feet!

Alternate activity:
Dino Egg Hunt
For this activity, I filled bins with dry rice and buried plastic eggs in the rice.
A tarp under the bins helped with cleanup!

Triceratops Toss
I cut the head out of purple poster board we had and used three mini traffic cones we had for the horns. The kids tossed rings around the horns. I got my inspiration from an image on Teachers Pay Teachers. I did not use the official download; I just freehanded it. Here is an image of the one I made:

Kids decorated crowns made from cardstock.
The Crown Template is from First Palette. I used Crown Template 2 in black and white so the kids could color them, but they are all cute!

We used dot markers to color them, which made it an even more young-child friendly activity.

Feed the Hungry Dino
The kids used plastic play food to feed dinosaur puppets. The teen volunteers at this station did a great job puppeteering and interacting with the kids.
Play-Dough Dinos
For this station, we provided play-dough and plastic dinosaurs.
The kids brought the imaginative play.

Fossil Finder
For this activity, we taped down a coloring page with fossils on it (similar to the one linked below) and taped a sealed clear pouch of chocolate pudding over it (similar to the painting setup on the right).
You could use a gallon-sized ziplock bag, clear plastic taped shut, etc.
When the kids pressed on the sealed bag, the pudding moved aside, revealing the fossils underneath.
The pudding did start leaking out at one point, so if you do this activity, make sure you’ve taped it well!
Snacks
No tea party would be complete without snacks, but we kept it simple: Dinosaur Bones (pretzels), Dino Drink (pink lemonade from a mix), a cake, and Sky Juice (water).
